Social networking is one of the major activities of Android users in India. A growing population of social networking site users, access the sites from their mobile phones. A new research done by Nielsen Informate on the social networking usage in India, shows that a whopping 93% of Android users in the country, access social networking sites on their smartphones.
Social networking apps, offer seamless integration with other phone functions, enabling users to instantly upload and share photos, update posts and connect with friends on the go. With social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin making efforts to improve their mobile offerings, more and more people are reaching out to their mobile phones instead of PCs and laptops to access social networking sites.
Facebook is the dominant social networking site being accessed by Android users. Nielsen reports that Facebook is leading the mobile social networking race, and its reach is more than 5 times higher than that of its nearest competitor – Google+. The report further adds that 1 in 3 Facebook users do not use any other social networking property.
For smartphone users, the Facebook app is the most preferred way of accessing the site. “The Facebook app is very sticky with an average user logging in 17 days a month,” the study states, adding that . integration with other social networking properties and with phone features (eg., camera, browser) make the app a convenient one stop solution.

Nielsen research also found that Facebook users accessed the site throughout the day, on their smartphones, but the activity and the engagement levels of the members reached its peak during the night.
