Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, Phil Schiller, announced today that the company would be releasing a new and improved version of their popular MacBook Pro computer. The new MacBook Pro will blow previous MacBook Pro versions out of the water in terms of features. Most notably, the new notebook comes with a Retina display, quad-core processors, and a 0.71-inch thick body.

The Macbook Pro’s Retina display will be 15.4 inches and boast 220 ppi (pixels per inch) and a 28800X1800 resolution. This means that the notebook will have the highest screen resolution of any notebook on the market. Luckily, Apple has already created updated versions of Safari, Mail, iPhoto, and other apps that are compatible with the Retina display. Apple is currently encouraging developers to create and update apps to make them compatible with the display as well.
Apple loyalists will tell you that they’d never switch back to a Windows laptop after using their Mac. However, Windows laptops still occupy the majority of the market share in the realm of personal, portable computers. The introduction of the new MacBook Pro with its groundbreaking and stunning Retina display is sure to change things a bit, and it might just be the catalyst Apple needs to finally dominate the laptop market.
The 2012 MacBook Pro starts shipping today from the Apple website. The basic version of this new notebook gets you 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, and it will cost you $2,199. This notebook is definitely an investment, but what Apple product isn’t?
