Last year, Bharti Enterprises & Japan’s SoftBank Corp had started a Joint Venture (JV) called Bharti Softbank Holdings Pvt. Ltd. The company intended to explore multiple avenues for revenue generation like mobile banking, social media, mobile gaming & of course, e-commerce. In accordance to their plan, the JV had launched location-aware check-in service Hoppr meant to offer discounts & coupons for shoppers who SMSed special codes.
To further enter the lucrative mobile marketing sphere, the company has setup another JV withYahoo Japan Corp called BSY Pte Ltd. The primary aim of the JV will be to come up with a web-based portal solely for the Internet on the go. India’s mobile population is about to breach the1000 Million mark. Under such circumstances, it is vital for companies to shift focus from the desktop to the mobile screen.
Mobiles often pose unique hurdles, the biggest being extremely limited screen real estate. However, they offer features that a desktop version simply cannot match. Using GPS technology, companies can easily direct targeted advertisements about products, services, offers that are happening near the users’ location. This increases the efficiency of the advertising campaign tremendously.
With faster Internet, people are being increasingly reliant on their smartphones to offer information, entertainment & connectivity. Hence, enhancing data consumption of its users will be on the priority list of many telecom companies. But, for that, they will require unique & engaging content.
